Tug under construction sank at shipyard quay

In an incident at the Baltic Shipyard, the tug 'Kapitan Ushakov ', a Project 23470 vessel. sank after its auxiliary engine room flooded. on the evening of August 8, 2025, at the quay of the Baltic Shipyard in St. Petersburg. The vessel was located at a facility leased by the Yaroslavl Shipyard, which was responsible for its construction. The shipyard’s team and emergency services tried to stabilize the ship: The Baltic Shipyard workers helped their colleagues stop the list. According to initial reports, the flooding of the auxiliary engine room led to the list and then the sinking of the vessel. An investigation was is on site to determine the cause of the incident. The Project 23470 tugs are designed to tow ships, floating objects and structures on the sea and open ocean without navigation restrictions. They can operate in Arc4-class ice conditions and perform search and rescue missions, firefighting and other functions. Fire on Admiralty Yard

The Russian icebreaker "Viktor Chernomyrdin", 22000 gt (IMO-No.: 9658630), which was actually being under construction at the Admiralty Shipyard in St. Petersburg and which initially was scheduled to be delivered before the end of the year, was hit by a fire raging on 3,200 square meters on decks 3 and 4 in the evening of Nov 27, 2018. The fire was very powerful and two firefighters were injured during the extinguishing work which involved 140 firemen and 39 vehicles. The "Viktor Chernomyrdin"was to be the largest diesel electric icebreaker in the world.The completion of the ice breaker has been delayed several times. The ship had already been delayed for three years when the fire broke out. What consequences the fire will have for commissioning was not known yet known. According to the press center of SP SBI Mostotrest, navigation on the Neva and Malaya Neva rivers will last till November 30. After the navigation season is over raising of bridges is possible for certain bridges. The beginning and the end of the bridge raising season is regulated by Saint-Petersburg Government’s Order dated 29.11.2006 (No1480).
